Permit Required: Yes, through the Ministry of Tourism, Pakistan.
The name "Broad Peak" was given by British explorer W.M. Conway in 1892 due to the mountain's immense summit ridge, which stretches over 1.5 kilometers.
The local Balti name is "Falchan Kangri," which also means “Broad Mountain.”
K2 (8,611 m): Just 8 kilometers away—Broad Peak is part of the same cluster of 8,000ers.
