Araniko Chuli was named after the famous Nepali artist and architect Araniko, who traveled to Tibet and China during the 13th century and became renowned for his contributions to Buddhist art and architecture.

The peak stands on the northern edge of the Damodar Himal between the historical regions of Lo (Upper Mustang) and Dolpo. Due to its remote location, it remains one of Nepal’s least-climbed 6,000-meter peaks.

The first recorded ascent was completed on 10 July 2002 by a Japanese-Nepali team consisting of Tamotsu Ohnishi, Ang Phurba Sherpa, and Dikki Sherpa.

Many websites incorrectly place Araniko Chuli in the Langtang region or provide inaccurate elevation figures. The officially recognized elevation is 6,039 meters, and the mountain belongs to the Damodar Himal range in the Mustang–Dolpa region of Nepal
