Short Outline Itinerary for Everest Base Camp trek with Lobuche Peak Climbing.

Day 01: Arrival at Katmandu International Airport (TIA) Welcome program by Actual Adventure member and direct transfer to Hotel on Bed & Breakfast Plan.

Day 02: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,828m), trek to Phakding 3 hours (2,610 m) overnight at Lodge.

Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) 5/ 6 hours overnight at Lodge.

Day 04: Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar overnight at Lodge.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m/12,694ft): 5- 6 hours

Day 06: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,320m) walk 5/6 hours, overnight at Lodge.

Day 07: Dingboche trek to Lobuche (4,910m) walk 5/6 hours overnight at Lodge.

Day 08: Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,180m) walk approximately 2/3 hours .Lunch at Gorakshep and continue trek Everest base camp and overnight at Gorakshep.

Day 09: Early in the morning hike up to Kalappattar (5,545m), back to Gorakshep, breakfast at Gorakshep, trek to Lobuche (4,910m) overnight at Lobuche.

Nepal Visa Information

Visa in Nepal can be acquired on arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu and also at the border entry points in Kakadvitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Gaddachowki border of Nepal - India and Kodari on Nepal-China border. Visa can also acquire at the nearest Nepal Embassy. For visa renewal purpose you can contact at Department of Immigration, Kalikasthan at Kathmandu. A valid passport and one passport -size photo with a light background is required. Visa can be obtained only through payment of cash in the following currency: Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen. Transportation, Flight and Arrival Information

We will send our representatives from Actual Adventure Pvt.Ltd at Tribhuvan International Airport a bit earlier than your arrival. As you land at Tribhuvan International Airport and complete your immigration process you will see our representatives holding a placard of your and company’s name. Actual Adventure Displaying Board, They will welcome you in a Nepali style offering some flowers and then transfer you to the hotel in our own private luxurious vehicle. You will meet rest of the team members in the hotel. The next day you will have your breakfast at the hotel or drive to the airport for your flight to Lukla depending upon the flight schedule. The costs includes Airport to Hotel pickup and drop for both domestic and international flights. You will meet the rest of the team members in Lukla and only guide will be going along with you from Kathmandu.

Accommodations

The accommodations during Kathmandu will be provided in standard 3 star hotels. However accommodations during the trek will be provided in Tea houses or lodges. All the accommodations will be provided on twin sharing basis. In Kathmandu you will get luxurious rooms with attached bathrooms and other luxury facilities. But, it might not be possible during the trek. You will be provided with clean and comfortable accommodations but in the mountain region there might not be facilities of attached bathrooms in the lodge or guest houses and also you may have to pay extra charges for hot water as well. We will try our best to provide you the best available services as far as possible. Single supplement rooms can also be provided on request but may not be available on higher altitude.

Meals

All meals during the trek will be provided by the company. The meals are provided three times a day that includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The breakfast is provided at the same lodge/teahouse where you had your overnight stay; Lunch is provided on the way and dinner at the last stop of the day where you will have your overnight stay. Since, all the tea houses/ lodges are run by the local people they have the similar food items on the menu. The tea houses mostly serve the local Nepali dishes and also offer some common Indian and continental food items as well. You can choose your food as according to the menu. We advise you to give a try to local food items and treat your taste buds with new flavors. Since, most of the food items are made up of locally grown it is healthy and organic as well. The breakfast during Everest Base Camp Trek usually consists of toast, eggs, potatoes, and tea or coffee. Some tea houses offers instantly made chapattis or Porridge instead of toast. The lunch and dinner usually consists of typical Nepali food called Dal Bhat (cooked Lentils and Rice) including vegetables and pickles or you can also choose noodles, pastas, soups and other items. Since every food items are made by the local people you may not get that exact taste in the dishes other than local dishes.

Drinking water

Water is an essential part of your trek. You need to drink plenty of water during your. Most of the diseases during your trek are caused by drinking impure water. However it is not that the water in the mountain region is impure. It is natural and clean the people there consume it direct from the tap. But, since you are not used to you may get directly affected and consuming water direct from the tap might ruin your trek. Here are the tips for consuming water during Everest Base Camp Trek.

1. Mineral Water/ Bottled water.

Mineral water or Bottled water is available at most of the tea houses. The bottled water costs normally 1 Dollar per liter. If you find it in any tea houses it is better to carry an extra bottle because it may not be available anywhere during the trek.

2. Boiled Water

Drinking boiled water is probably the best method while trekking in the mountains. It is highly effective treatment for killing the bacteria from the water. You can boil the water in the tea house and carry it along with you during the trek. The tea hoses charges normally one to two dollars to boil the water.

3. Purified Water.

You can bring your own water purification tablets like Aquatabs®, Chlorine tablets, Bhromine Tablets along with you. It helps to save your budget as well.

4. Filtered Water.

You can also use filtered water as well during your Everest Base Camp Trek. This can be an alternate where boiling is not preferred and also there is not any availability of other purified water. The filters like hand pump are effective in removing protozoa, bacteria and chemicals/toxins from the water but may not be effective removing the viruses.

Leader & Staffs Arrangements with Porter Care

During this Classic Everest Base Camp trek you will fly to Lukla from Kathmandu only with your guide. Other team members like assistant guide and porters will join you from Lukla. We focus on giving employment opportunities to the local people as far as possible. We choose experienced field staff having good knowledge in their related field. We do have highly experienced team of porters and guides. Our field staff leaders are highly experienced and have undergone the training like. Intensive Wilderness First Aid, Trekking Guide Training, Eco Trekking Workshop and Adventure Meet, English Language, Conservation and Biodiversity, Rock climbing, Ice Climbing and Mountaineering (for expedition leaders).

Why do we use Porters?

Porters are the most helpful assistant for your Everest Base Camp Trek. They carry your luggage all the way through your trek. We use the local porters during Everest Base Camp Trek. It is a small effort from our side to provide them employment opportunity and help them maintain their living standard and look after their families. We provide one porter for each two members of a group and also provide personal porter on request with additional costs.

Why don’t we use Yak as Porters?

During your Everest Base Camp Trek you can also see several Yaks and Mules on your way used as porter. Actual Adventure Pvt.Ltd doesn’t use yaks and mules as porters during the trek because we respect animal rights and emphasis on giving employment opportunities to the local people.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264 ft)

When you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. You can pick up your luggage and see for the representative of Actual Adventure after the completion of your immigration process. Then Our Actual Adventure representative will welcome you in traditional way at the arrival gate. You will be taken to the exact hotel as you plan. You can meet trekking crew at Actual Adventure head office after check in your hotel or you can visit Kathmandu valley. At evening, you can enjoy a good traditional welcome Dinner (D) in a traditional restaurant, organized by Actual Adventure.

As this will your first day in Nepal, We will never miss the opportunity to make you enjoyed and make you feel good.

Day 02: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

We will flight to Lukla early in the morning. We can reach Tenzing and Hillary airport Lukla within half an hour. Lukla is a small town in the lap of high peak. It is a starting point of our trek. We trek towards Phakding. Mt.Nupla and Kusum Kangru can be seen on the way. We will stay all night in Phakding.

Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m. /11,286 ft)

We have to walk through Sherpa village and rhododendron forest to reach Namche Bazaar. This is one of a beautiful village, which is comfortable to stay. We can experience the gorgeous views from here. We will spend all night in Namche.

Day 04: Namche Acclimatization

We will stay another day in Namche Bazaar for adaptation with atmosphere which will help us to climb Lobuche. We will visit to Syangboche, Khumjung and Khude from where close view of Mt. Everest fantasize us. Also we can watch the traditions of Sherpa people.

Day 05: Trek to Tengboche (3867 m. /18,687 ft)

From Namche Bazaar we walk towards Tengboche. Tongboche is the best place that provides the most wonderful scene of the Himalayan. Kwangde (6,187m.), Twachee (6,542m.), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,782m.), Amadablam (6,812m.), Naptse (7,879m.), Lhotse (8,501m.) and Everest (8,848m.) are the most vision able mountains from this place. We can also visit the largest Buddhist Monastery Khumbu.

Day 06: Trek to Dingboche (4,530m. /14,800 ft)

We have to go through Imjasta River and rhododendron forest and pass through villages and Mani walls. We can enjoy wonderful views from Dingboche which is the beautiful village from where not only the gorgeous field of barley, buckwheat and potatoes can be seen. We can also enjoy the Island peak, Makalu and another face of Amadablam.

Day 07: Dingboche Acclimatization.

Today we will stay at Dingboche. Dingboche is a popular stop for acclimatization for trekkers trekking to Everest Base Camp and other destinations. After breakfast we will have an optional walk to Chhukhung and Island Peak base camp. From there we will have great views of snow capped mountains. We will spend some time there have our lunch and then trek back to Dingboche for overnight stay.

Day 08: Trek to Lobuche (4,930m.)

We will continuously follow the high alpine region. We can watch the dazzling scene of Nuptse, Lobuche, Pumari, Cholatse. On the way we can see monuments of trekkers, who gave their life while climbing around. We have to stay at Lobuche during the night.

Day 09: Lobuche to Gorakshep Trek to Everest base Camp (5,360m.) back to Gorakshep.

Our entire group walks to Gorakshep (5,160m.) where we spend a night today then we continuously move towards to Everest base camp through Snowy Mountain. As we reach to the base camp we will return to Gorakshep for overnight stay.

Day 10: Hike to Kalapathar (5545 m.) back to Lobuche.

We will walk towards Kalapathar (small rocky peak) in the morning. As we reach to Kalapathar we can see the panoramic view of Mt. Everest and other surrounding Mountains of Everest Region. We will spend some time here enjoying the views and capturing the moment in a picture. Then we will forward towards Lobuche upto height 4,930 m. to spend night there.

Day 11: Trek to Lobuche High Camp.

Today we will trek to Lobuche High Camp from Lobuche. The trek goes on a relatively flat terrain for some distance and then starts getting steeper and rocky afterwards. The trek goes along the Lobuche Glacier and offers wonderful views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse and other several mountains. The trial will need ropes while climbing in ice. The climbing leaders will decide when to use fixed ropes and man ropes. Overnight in Lobuche High Camp.

Pre Climbing training: Today after reaching High Camp our guides will provide information and training about climbing. They will teach the proper ways of using the climbing gears such as ice axe, climbing boots and crampons, harness, ascender, etc. The training helps to boost up your confidence level and will help you a lot during the climbing period. Overnight at Lobuche High Camp.

Day 12: Lobuche High Camp to Summit (6119m/20,070 ft) and back to High Camp: 8-10 hours

Today we will wake up early in the morning at around 1 am and have breakfast at high camp. It is very important to start the trek early and reach the summit before noon because in the afternoon the strong winds in the high lands may create obstacle for a successful summit. The summit of the peak offers panoramic views of the mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cholatse and several other mountains of Everest Region. After spending some time at the summit we will trek back to Lobuche High Camp.

Day 13: Contingency/reserve day

The contingency day is an extra day set aside to mange any foreseeable conditions in case if happens. It is set aside to ensure the successful in spite of unintended hindrance.

Day 14: Lobuche High Camp to Pangboche (3930m /12900 ft): 8-9 hours

We will have our breakfast at Lobuche and start the trek. We will trek down from the high camp and then join the Everest Base Camp route and reach to Lobuche. After having lunch there the trek further continues back to Pheriche and then trek down to Pangboche through the hillside blanketed with rhododendron and pine trees. After reaching Pangboche we will visit the famous Pangboche Monastery of Everest Region. Overnight at pangboche.

Day 15: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar: 4-5 hours

After having our breakfast at Pangboche we will start our trek. The trek goes down to the Imja Khola and then goes up to the forest to Tengboche. We will continue the trek through the hillside blanketed by rhododendron and juniper trees. We will cross the Dudh Koshi River Bridge and continue further following the Dudh Koshi gorge. The trial descends rapidly through the pine forests before reaching Sansa. Continuing further from Sansa we will reach to Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 16: Namche Bazaar trek to Lukla walk 6/7 hours

Today you will have your last day on mountains. The trial today is mostly a downhill on along the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. You will trek toward the Hillary Suspension bridges, and also pass by several monasteries and villages before reaching Lukla. After reaching Lukla you will take rest and spend some quality time remembering all those bittersweet reminiscence of the journey. Overnight at Lukla

Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu 1,400m, direct transfer to hotel.

Today is your final day of Everest High passes trek. You will have your breakfast at Lukla and then fly back to Kathmandu. You will have the last few minute’s views of the mountains in your flight back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu the representative will drop you to the hotel and you can take some rest or do some shopping as reminder. You can take the guides if you need help. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 18: Departure from Kathmandu to your onward destination.

Your trek to Everest Base Camp and Lobuche Peak ends here. We hope you enjoyed your trek with Actual Adventure and we wish to see you soon again for another trek in Nepal. You will be transferred to Tribhuvan International airport for your onward journey.

NOTE 01: Itinerary can be Change

The trekkers are recommending to arrive a day earlier at Kathmandu before the start of Trek. It is because arriving a day earlier gives you ample time for rest and also you can buy the necessary trekking gears in Kathmandu in case you haven’t brought it with you. Also it is better if you are prepared for the unforeseeable weather of Everest Region with some additional days besides the trip schedule so that you won’t miss your International flight even if the Lukla flight is delayed or cancelled. We will offer you welcome dinner in Kathmandu on your arrival day and due to any reasons if the welcome dinner cannot be provided the following day then we will offer you farewell dinner before your departure.

All our trekking packages are fully customization. We can accommodate the trekking packages according to the preference and requirements of the customer. The above provided template is just a demonstration of what we offer.

NOTE 01: Itinerary Can be Cancel Party or Fully

During the trip, the unpredictable factors like, weather, local politics, transport and many more which are beyond our control can bring some change in the itinerary. In such case, if the alternation in the itinerary is necessary, then the trek leader will decide for the best alternative with the consent and interest of the whole group. If the change occurs we will do our best to minimize its effect; however the company cannot be responsible for the results of changes and delays.

Extra Days in Nepal

We advise you to include some extra days other than your trek schedule. It is because the weather of Everest Region is unpredictable and the flights to Lukla often gets delayed or cancelled. Having extra days in your trek schedule helps you to not miss your international flights.

Extra Costs and Inclusions.

We suggest you to have some extra amount with you cash or credit card that will help you to cover the unforeseen circumstances. Here are some extra costs and an inclusion if in case happens.

Extra night accommodation in Kathmandu due to any unforeseen cause like flight cancellation, weather conditions or any other should be paid by the trekkers themselves.
Nepal entry visa ($40 USD).
All the meals are included on the trek and only breakfast and welcome dinner in Kathmandu.
Tips for guides and porters.
We don't include drinking water on the trek which you can buy a number of places for between $1 and $3 a bottle (it gets more expensive towards base camp). A better solution is to buy water tablets in Kathmandu for around $2 and treat the water (your guide can help you find the good places to fill your water bottle).
The other things not included on the trek are like Wifi, charging batteries and hot showers. Wifi is available in some tea houses for $3 to $5 an hour. Hot Showers are also available in a few of the tea houses for between $4 and $6. Charging electronic devices is possible in the tea houses and charging costs between $1 and $3 an hour.

Flight Delay in Kathmandu and Lukla

Since, the weather in the Everest region is unpredictable and is likely to change every few hours, the Lukla flight often gets delayed or even cancelled.
Lukla Airport is situated on a wonderful valley surrounded by high mountains. Landing and taking off from Lukla is considered to be difficult and technical. Therefore, Lukla is considered as the most dangerous airstrips in the world.
Twin Otter and Dornier planes are the primary mode of transport to and from the airstrip at Lukla. This service is fairly dependable. However, if flight to and from Lukla are cancelled in case of bad weather conditions in Everest region, we can help you charter a helicopter upon your request to ensure you are on schedule for your trip and international flight connections. The helicopter charge is to be paid by the passengers themselves and can be reimbursed from their travel insurance later. The helicopter charges USD 2,500 to USD 3,000 per helicopter. The helicopter can carry up to 4 to 6 passengers at a time and the cost can be shared among the passengers. The company can help by providing necessary documents required to claim the amount from insurance company.

The payment for helicopter must be paid at time of service by participant. US dollars cash or credit cards (Visa Cards, Master Cards, and American Express) are accepted for helicopter transport. Any card payment requires a 4% bank fee, which goes directly to the bank.
The helicopter can fly if the visibility is 1500m or greater, while the twin otter and Dornier planes can fly if the visibility is 5000m or greater, as per Nepal’s Civil Aviation rules. If the weather is extreme and the visibility is lesser than 1,500m helicopters cannot be operated. In such case we will reschedule your flight for next day depending on the availability. If this situation keeps on getting repeated for many days then we will provide you with the alternative trek options.

FLYING TO LUKLA – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Flying to Lukla.

The most adventures journey of the world has an adventurous gateway. Almost all of the treks in Everest Region begin with an exciting flight from Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary airport Lukla. The flight is short, scenic, exciting and adventurous. On the other hand this short flight takes your breath out, flying out from the TIA it directly lands on a small airstrip over an isolated mountain valley tucked in between the mountains of Khumbu region also known as world’s most dangerous airport in just 40 minutes approx.

Since, there is no road transportation; the Flight to Lukla is the sole vehicle approach to Everest Region. The market here can be possible only by Flight or several days of walking. Thus, Lukla Airport is a hub for all the local people and trekkers in the Everest Region.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport Lukla

Tenzing-Hillary Airport Lukla or Lukla Airport stands at an altitude of 2845m above the sea level. The Route to Lukla airport from Kathmandu is short but it is often it is interrupted by unpredictable weather conditions which causes delay and flight cancellation. The flight to Lukla offers you with most amazing view of the mountains and picturesque landscapes of Everest Region passing over interconnected mountain ranges of Nepal.

History of Tenzing-Hillary Airport Lukla

The Tenzing Hillary Airport was called Lukla Airport until 2008. The airport was meant to be built in the flat farmlands but the villagers refused to give their lands and thus, the airport was built at its current position in 1964 under the supervision of Edmund Hillary. Hillary bought the land from local Sherpa’s for US$2,650 and involved them in building the facilities. Because Hillary was unhappy with the runway's soil resistance, and he made a solution was to buy local liquor for the Sherpa’s and asked them to perform a foot-stomping dance to flatten the land that served as the runway. The runway was not paved until 2001. The airport was renamed as Tenzing-Hillary Airport in January 2008 in the honor of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary to mark their efforts in the construction of airport and celebrate their victory of being the first people to successfully climb Mt.Everest.

Is the flight to Lukla Safe?

Having had a reputation of being the most dangerous airport in this could be injustice to say the flight to Lukla is completely safe. The Lukla airport is said the world’s most dangerous airport because of its difficult topography and small airstrips. However, it is one of the busiest domestic airports of Nepal and flying there is pretty safe. The aviation officials and airlines of Nepal have become stricter on the acceptable flight conditions and regulations for aircraft making the journey to Lukla. The airlines and officials have been more concise regarding passenger safety and safely landing of the aircrafts.

During peak tourist seasons about 20 or 30 aircraft land in Lukla every day and almost all of the trekkers who visit the Everest Region annually fly into Lukla. Due to the difficulties of successfully landing at the airport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal sets high standards, for which only experienced pilots, who completed at least 100 short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) missions, have over one year of STOL experience in Nepal and completed ten missions into Lukla with a certified instructor pilot, are allowed to land at the airport.

The first or second flight to Lukla is more stable, safer and has better visibility. For this, we request our customer to send their deposits and information as early as possible.

Planning for Delays at Lukla

Lukla Airport is situated on a wonderful valley surrounded by high mountains. Landing and taking off from Lukla is considered to be difficult and technical. Therefore, Lukla is considered as the most dangerous airstrips in the world.

We request our customers to schedule some extra days at the end of the trip; this gives you flexibility with your trekking itinerary in case of any weather delays. It will be better if you have at least three extra days other than your trek schedule.

Twin Otter and Dornier planes are the primary mode of transport to and from the airstrip at Lukla. This service is fairly dependable. However, if flight to and from Lukla are cancelled in case of bad weather conditions in Everest region, we can help you charter a helicopter upon your request to ensure you are on schedule for your trip and international flight connections. The helicopter charge is to be paid by the passengers themselves and can be reimbursed from their travel insurance later. The helicopter charges USD 2,500 to USD 3,000 per helicopter. The helicopter can carry up to 4 to 6 passengers at a time and the cost can be shared among the passengers. The company can help by providing necessary documents required to claim the amount from insurance company.

The helicopter can fly if the visibility is 1500m or greater, while the twin otter and Dornier planes can fly if the visibility is 5000m or greater, as per Nepal’s Civil Aviation rules. If the weather is extreme and the visibility is lesser than 1,500m helicopters cannot be operated. In such case we will reschedule your flight for next day depending on the availability. If this situation keeps on getting repeated for many days then we will provide you with the alternative trek options.

What About Luggage Delays at Lukla?

Luggage Delays in Lukla are very rare .However it is not impossible and your luggage can be shifted to another flight or delayed by the airline. We suggest you to keep all your valuables and important things that you might need on an urgent basis like medicines or any other things to keep in your hand carry. Although, luggage misplaced or delays by the airlines are out of our control we will try our best to get your gears on the trial.

What are the options to get back to Kathmandu when the Lukla flights are canceled?

Since, flight delays are very common in Lukla the best idea is to have some extra days and wait for the flight. However, you can also look for the following options as well.

Flying to Lukla by helicopter can be the best alternatives to avoid the delay and cancel of the Lukla Flights by fixed wing. Lukla is the main gateway to the trekkers trekking in the Everest Region. Since, Lukla flightis the sloe vehicle in the Everest Region Lukla is the main hub for traders and trekkers in the Everest Region. Lukla airport gets super busy during the peak tourist seasons landing about 20 to 30 aircrafts every day in March to May and September to December. During seasons it is very difficult to get the flights in a short notice. You need to book the tickets before one month or earlier during peak seasons. To reach to Lukla on your scheduled time flying by Helicopters can be another option to flight.

Why fly by Helicopters to Lukla from Kathmandu?

Less Chance of Cancellation

Helicopters are the best alternative to Lukla flights. The helicopter flight can be booked easily and are less cancelled. The helicopter can fly if the visibility is 1500m or greater, while the twin otter and Dornier planes can fly if the visibility is 5000m or greater, as per Nepal’s Civil Aviation rules. The flights to Lukla are being operated by Manthali Airport because of the re-construction process going on in Tribhuvan International Airport. Manthali Airport is the closest airport from Kathmandu. It is located in Ramechaap District of Nepal in Province no.3. It takes about 4 hours to reach Manthali Airport from Kathmandu. Since the condition of the road is not so good you may not reach there in exact time. The bus departs at early 2am from Kathmandu and since the accommodations are less in Manthali driving from Kathmandu is an only option. The helicopter can carry up to 5 passengers at a time. The maximum weight that a helicopter can carry is up to 500kg.

How to Book a Helicopter to Lukla?

To book a helicopter flight to Lukla to Kathmandu or Kathmandu to Lukla from Actual Adventure Pvt. Ltd you will need to pay 50 percent of the total amount as advance for the confirmation of booking. The remaining amount can be paid before the flight. It will be our first priority to provide immediate service to our customers. There are only limited helicopters in Nepal and the demand highly increases during peak tourist season. In such case, it may not be possible for your instant helicopter flight.

Cancellation Policy.

If you have to cancel your flight due to any reasons then please kindly inform us. The flight cancellation should be made before 48 hours. USD 100 is charged as cancellation charge and the remaining amount will be returned back.

Trekking from Jiri

One option to get back to Kathmandu if the flight gets delayed is to trek back via Jiri. The trek via Jiri is the original route used by Sir Edmund Hillary in his Everest Expedition and it was the only gate way to this region until the Tenzing Hillary Airport was built. You can reach to Kathmandu after trekking about 5 days and a long bus ride.

Hike out to Salleri

After trekking about two days from Lukla you will reach Salleri from here you can to get a jeep to Kathmandu. After a long drive of about 10 to 12 hours you will reach to Kathmandu.

Helicopter to Paphlu

Phaplu isan airstrip lower in the valley close to Salleri. If helicopters are limited in availability they may only be available to shuttle guests to Phaplu. You can also get a jeep from Phaplu. It takes about 2-3 days to reach to Phaplu from Lukla.

Helicopter to Surkhe

It takes about an hour or half from Lukla to reach Surkhe. It is a small village below Lukla where helicopters sometimes land as the visibility is better.

Will Travel Insurance Cover Flight Delays to Lukla?

Make sure your travel insurance covers “trip interruption” that is a result of a rescheduled or canceled flight and will reimburse you for missed international connections or extra travel expenses. If our clients fail to make their trip or want to cancel their program due to any unavoidable circumstances, the company will refund only 70% of the deposited amount. However if you inform prior to 30 days before the trek no cancellation charge will be taken.

Early Termination of a Trek.

Sometimes the trek ends before the scheduled itinerary due to several reasons regarding health or any other personal issues of the trekkers. If in case, early termination of the trek happens please note that we cannot offer refunds for unused days. It is because we have to pay the committed amount to our porters, guides and other team members.

Program Change/ Delay:

The departure scheduled would be changed on any unavoidable circumstance like weather hazards, trail slides, soil erosion, avalanches, sudden sickness, etc. The program can be customized as per the interest of the clients.

Training and Fitness for Trekking.

No prior training and experience is required to do Everest Base Camp Trek. But, if you have trekking experience anywhere in the world then it can be an added point to your trek to Everest Base Camp. If you can walk up to 6-7 hours a day in an unfamiliar terrain then you can easily trek to Everest Base Camp. It is better if you start taking energy boosting diets and doing some physical exercise a month before the trek. All you need to have is strong willingness and ability to overcome the challenges.

Staying Healthy

Staying healthy and fit is very important when you are trekking to one of the most strenuous trekking destinations. You need to be very careful about your health and health related problems. Here are the following tips you can use to stay healthy during Everest Base Camp Trek.

• Eat proper and healthy diets.

• Avoid eating meat and meat products more often.

• Drink a lot of water.

• Don’t drink water direct from the resources or without purifying.

• Starting exercising a month prior to the trek.

• Take your regular medicines with you.

Take Care of your Feet.

Taking care of your feet is a must when you are going on a trek. Not taking proper care of your feet can ruin your trek. To take care proper care of your feet the following tips might be helpful.

• Buy good quality comfortable shoes.

• Clip Your Toenails

• Apply Powders/Creams/Tapes

• Wear the Right Socks

• Wash your feet regularly.

• Soak your feet for at least 10- 20 minutes at the end of the day.

Getting a Good Night Rest

As it is said ‘Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy and wise’, getting a proper goodnight sleep is very important for everyone. During the trek since your body gets tired after walking all day long a proper sleep is a must. You need to sleep for at least 7-8 hours. A good night sleep helps your body to take rest and recollect the energies that you’ve lost during your trek. For a better sleep we recommend you to carry a sleeping bag with you. The sleeping bag will be provided by the company or you can carry your own if you have. Sleeping Bag is necessary especially when you are trekking to Everest Base Camp because since only basic accommodations are available the blankets might not be enough for you.

Acclimatization & Sickness.

Acclimatization is very important when you are trekking to an altitude of more than 3500m. Proper acclimatization helps to reduce the chances of Altitude Sickness. The itinerary is designed with proper acclimatization that will help your body to adopt the lower oxygen content in the air. Once you reached an altitude of 5000m the oxygen content in the air is less than 50% than that of the sea level. One of the main causes of altitude sickness is staying too long at high altitude without proper acclimatization. If in case you suffer from altitude sickness, the guides will notice the symptoms and then drop you to the lower altitude immediately. You have to inform to your guide if you notice any discomfort or symptoms of AMS. Major altitude sickness might need emergency helicopter rescue so make sure your travel insurance covers all the risk including helicopter rescue.

Note: If you suffer from altitude sickness in the mountain and still want to continue the trek then you can directly call to the office or ask you guide to call to office and make arrangements. In such case you may have to stay at the mountains for some extra days so we suggest you to have at least three extra days than your trek schedule. We charge $70 for extra days in the mountains. Since, there are several groups trekking from the company it is possible for you to join another group during peak seasons. However, it might not be possible during off season and you may have to pay extra charge for the porters and guide.

Hiking or trekking to high altitudes can result altitude sickness and sometimes can be severe as well. So, it is better to have proper acclimatization and stay hydrated and have proper balance diets while trekking to higher altitudes.

Symptoms of High Altitude sickness

The symptoms of altitude sickness depend upon various factors. These are the primary symptoms of Altitude sickness that can be cured immediately with certain precautions.

Can you trek in Nepal without a guide?

The permit required for Everest Base Camp Trek like Sagarmatha National Park Permit, and TIMS card will be managed by the company itself. For this you will need to submit your passport sized photo (2 copies) and a photocopy of your passport in the office.

It is highly recommended to our travelers to respect the local culture and custom of Sherpa people. The prayer rocks, walls and flags are meant to be kept to the right at all times. It is a custom to follow what the local people believe. Also, ask before taking any photographs, many people do not want their photos taken.

Communication during Everest Base Camp Trek.

For some trekking can be a short break from social medias and internet whereas for some internet and communication is a means to stay connected with near and dear ones during trekking. While travelling in the remotest areas you may not have facilities of telephone and internet. However, in recent days the Internet and Communication facilities during your trek to Everest Base Camp is improving rapidly. The region now has 3G and 4G coverage as well.

Satellite phone

If you want to have the best networks throughout your trek to Everest Base Camp you can use satellite phone throughout the trial. You can rent the sat phones or bring your own.

Wi-Fi

Most of the tea houses and lodges now provide Wi-Fi service. You can get free Wi-Fi in Everest View hotel and some of the lodges. But most of the lodges take extra charge for Wi-Fi. They charge you normally $5 for unlimited Wi-Fi coverage. However, the speed of the internet may not be faster like that of the cities.

Mobile data

Mobile Data can be the cheaper way to get in touch with your family and friends in the Everest Region. You can buy a local sim card from a private company in Nepal and activate your data. The cost od data pack varies per MB. A telecommunication company in Nepal, NCELL has launched 3G connectivity since 2010. So you can have a better internet experience in the Everest Region through mobile data as well.
