Stay Safe

Altitude Sickness: The main and common risk while trekking above about 2500m is Altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is caused by acute exposure to low partial pressure of oxygen at high altitude. The available amount of oxygen to sustain mental and physical alertness decreases with altitude. Available oxygen drops as the air density itself, the number of molecules (of both oxygen and nitrogen) per given volume, drops as altitude increases. So don’t ignore, if you have any symptoms then descending to a lower altitude is the only option.

Water: Have some means to purify water, iodine or a fine ceramic filter are the best options. The streams should be considered polluted and whilst bottled water is often available, the disposal of plastic bottles is a problem.

Electricity in Nepal

Nepal is a developing country, Outside of major cities area electricity on trekking can be scares. You should have to pay 100-800 NRs per hour to charge goods on many lodges and also many tea-house treks, including in Annapurna base camp trek, Everest Base camp trek and many others treks also. Chargers often won't work on low power solar systems you find right up in the mountains so u can buy alternative bayonet light to electricity power plug converter, which will only works in low voltage is highlow. The standard Nepalese electrical outlet is a three-pronged triangle so bring three-pronged triangle chargers.

the Manaslu Circuit Trek requires several permits and documents due to its status as a restricted area. Please keep in mind that regulations and requirements can change, so it's essential to verify the current permit requirements with local authorities or a registered trekking agency before embarking on your trek. The following permits/documents were required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek:

Restricted Area Permit (RAP):

The main permit required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek is the Restricted Area Permit (RAP). This permit is issued by the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and is mandatory for entering the Manaslu Conservation Area. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP):

In addition to the RAP, you also need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) since the trek passes through parts of the Annapurna Conservation Area. The ACAP aims to support conservation efforts and preserve the natural environment.

Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS):

The TIMS card is another essential document required for trekking in Nepal. It's a database of trekkers that helps ensure their safety and facilitates search and rescue operations if necessary. There are two types of TIMS cards: one for individual trekkers and one for trekkers in groups.

Local Area Permit (Optional):

Some specific regions or municipalities along the Manaslu Circuit Trek route might require a local area permit. This permit is obtained at local checkpoints and is typically valid for that particular area.

Passport and Visa:

The safety of the Manaslu Circuit Trek depends on various factors, including proper preparation, adherence to safety guidelines, the weather, and the experience of your guide and support team. When planned and executed correctly, the trek can be safe and rewarding. Here are some key points to consider regarding safety:

Trekking Agency and Guide: Hiring a licensed and experienced trekking guide from a reputable agency is a crucial step to ensure safety. A guide's knowledge of the trail, weather conditions, and emergency protocols can greatly enhance your safety.

Acclimatization: Proper acclimatization is essential to avoid altitude sickness. Ascending gradually, taking acclimatization days, staying hydrated, and paying attention to your body's signals are important for your well-being.

Permits and Regulations: Obtaining the required permits and adhering to local regulations is a safety measure. Trekking in restricted areas without the necessary permits can be dangerous and illegal.

Weather: Nepal's weather can be unpredictable, especially in mountainous regions. Being prepared for changing weather conditions, carrying appropriate clothing, and knowing when to delay or adjust your trek due to adverse weather is important.

Emergency Plans: A well-prepared trekking agency will have plans in place for emergencies, including access to evacuation and medical facilities if needed. Make sure you understand the emergency procedures.

Physical Fitness: Being physically prepared for the trek helps prevent exhaustion and reduces the risk of injury. Regular exercise before the trek can improve your stamina and endurance.

Communication: Carry a fully charged mobile phone, a portable charger, and a communication device to stay in touch in case of emergencies. Keep important contact numbers handy.

Altitude Awareness: Educate yourself about altitude sickness symptoms and how to prevent and manage it. Trekking with a guide who understands altitude-related issues is crucial.

Group Trekking: Whenever possible, trek with a group or other trekkers for added safety and companionship.

Common symptoms include headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. Severe cases can lead to High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), which are life-threatening conditions.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious meals to maintain your energy levels.

Monitor Symptoms: Pay attention to your body and any symptoms of altitude sickness. If symptoms worsen or if you experience severe symptoms, descend to a lower altitude immediately.

Medications: Some trekkers opt to carry altitude sickness medications, such as Diamox, as a precaution. Consult with a medical professional before taking any medication.

Manaslu Circuit Trek - 2013 I have only good things to say about Kedar and his friends at Actual Adventure.com. My two sons and I had a fantastic trek around manaslu. Keshab, our guide, and the two porters, Kumar and Balkrishna were not only outstanding in their job they were also great people to get to know. My dealings to Kedar, from beginning to end, were pleasure. Thank You for the most enjoyable trip in Nepal. Israel (Uri + Gilad)

I recently embarked on the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Actual Adventure, and I can't express how truly amazing this journey was. It was an adventure of a lifetime that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I reached Kathmandu, the team at Actual Adventure demonstrated their professionalism and commitment to ensuring our trek was a success. Our guide, porters, and the entire support team were not just knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly, making us feel like part of a close-kni... See more t family. The Manaslu Circuit is often referred to as Nepal's best-kept secret, and I couldn't agree more. The trek offered a perfect blend of stunning natural beauty, cultural immersion, and a sense of accomplishment. The towering Himalayan peaks, lush forests, and pristine rivers made every step of the journey a visual feast. And the best part? We encountered fewer trekkers on this route, making it feel like we had the trails to ourselves. One highlight of this trek was the opportunity to interact with the local communities along the way. Our guide, who had an in-depth knowledge of the region, facilitated these cultural exchanges, allowing us to gain insights into the traditional way of life in the Manaslu region. Staying in teahouses run by local families provided a genuine and enriching experience. Actual Adventure's attention to safety and comfort was commendable. The accommodations and meals along the trek were far better than I had anticipated. And when I suffered from mild altitude sickness, the team's swift response and care helped me recover quickly, ensuring that I could continue the trek with confidence. The highlight of the trek was undoubtedly reaching Larkya La Pass, the highest point of the journey. The sense of accomplishment and the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks made every uphill climb worthwhile. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Actual Adventure for organizing such a well-structured and memorable trek. If you're considering the Manaslu Circuit, I wholeheartedly recommend choosing Actual Adventure as your trekking company. Their expertise, commitment to safety, and genuine love for the Himalayas will ensure you have an unforgettable experience. Thank you, Actual Adventure, for making my Manaslu Circuit Trek a journey I will cherish forever. See less...
