The snow leopard is moderately large cat natives which are found in the mountain ranges of Central Asia. They are insulated by thick hair, and their wide, fur-covered feet act as natural snow shoes. It has powerful feet which help to take a long jump. They can able to jump as far as 50 feet (15 meters). They have long tails; they use it for balancing and cover their sensitive body parts. Snow leopards are carnivores and actively hunt their prey. They usually mate in late winter, marked by a noticeable increase in marking and calling which can be one part of our trek.
In Nepal in about 30,000 sq. /km area about 300–500 snow leopard is found. There are many places where we find the snow leopard in Nepal like Shey-Phoksundo National Park (Dolpa), Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve (Baglung), Annapurna Conservation Area, Api Nampa Conservation Area and also found in the Himalayan area.
